Renewing locking
Which lock protects your home?
The flawless operation of locks is considered to be elementary. Yet locking ages, as do houses or people.
When purchasing or renting an apartment, one should immediately consider changing the locks, as one can never be sure, to whom the former owner has given away keys. When planning a major overhaul in your home, it will be exactly the right time to take a critical look also at the door – whether it is safe enough to prevent breaking and entering your domain.
According to the police, 90% of crimes against domestic property occur due to the fact that it is easy for the criminal to break and enter: crappy locks or doors, unprotected windows.
A major security risk is losing keys or failing to get them back from people that should have no need for access to the building any more. Be it a friend, repairman, tenant or good buddy.
If you lose a key or move into a new apartment, we recommend recoding all the locks for new keys. Then you can be sure that the finder of your lost key has no access to your domain.
Thefts committed with copy keys made in secret are common. If you desire full control over the spread of your keys, use lock cylinders, extra keys of which are only duplicated when presenting a key card. So if a criminal “borrows” your door key, he will fail to copy that key unless he shows also a security card belonging to the key to the locksmith.
