8 good tips for using a key deposit

You need to leave the keys for somebody but leaving them under the doormat or inside a flowerpot doesn’t seem very safe?

Key deposit is an innovative solution for a situation like this. The code-locked safe enables you to hand over the keys safely and efficiently.

Luku-Expert recommends using the key deposit in the following places:

1. Home – Have you wished that you had a safe place where you could keep spare keys always at hand? Key safe is the right product for this purpose.

Place the key deposit in a discreet place where it cannot be easily seen. Fix the safe firmly with screws to a base so that nobody could maliciously remove it. Choose a code and lock your spare keys into the key safe. Now your keys are in a secure place out of sight but always available for You!

You can also use the key deposit for passing the keys to persons who for any reason need to get an access to your home, garage or shed. In such case just tell them the location of the key deposit and leave your keys in there.

N.B. Use a new code, if necessary, in order to avoid later any unwanted access to the content of your deposit.

2. A summer cottage, a hotel or a rented flat – Key deposit is an excellent way to hand over the keys.

Set a suitable code for your safe. Tell your tenant the access code and they can get the keys any time they need. If necessary, change the code frequently in order to avoid any malicious access to your property.

3. Car rental – The car hirer often arrives outside business hours when the delivery of keys would be very time and money consuming. Place the key deposit with the car keys into a secure place to avoid any malicious activity. If you want to simultaneously hand over several keys, use separate key deposits. Number the deposits and use different codes for different deposits.

4. A lock which many people have the right to open but it is not practical to make that many duplicates.

For example, the backdoor through which people take out their garbage. Place the key deposit inside near the door where it is convenient to take the key, and all residents can use it to open the door. It would be a good idea to tie the key with a string or rubber band to the deposit so that people cannot just „walk away“ with the key.

5. Key storage of a service object – There are places where different people need to access a certain object. You can just leave them keys in the storage place or keep the keys permanently in a key deposit. After finishing the servicing, the employee will again leave the key into the key deposit.

6. To hand over small items – Besides keys you can leave in the key deposit other small items you need to hand over. If the key deposit seems too small, you can use some of the safes with a changeable code in our selection.

7. To hand over bigger items – For example, you are expecting a shipment to be delivered and it is not practical to stay there in person to receive it. Instead, you can leave the delivery person a key of the room where you want them to leave the item. Always use one-time codes to avoid security risks.

8. Handing over the keys to the next shift – Machines, equipment and rooms often require the keys to be handed over without people actually meeting each other. The key deposit can be attached directly to the machine or a piece of equipment.

Remember:

  • Do not place the key deposit in a location where it is exposed to rain and snow. Moisture, water and ice are the biggest enemies of a code lock.
  • Always fix the key deposit to a firm base. This way you will make your key deposit a secure storage place.
  • Change the code frequently to avoid any security risk. If necessary, draw up a code chart with 20 codes and strike through the used codes.
  • Do not use easy-to-guess codes. This key deposit is secure only if strangers cannot guess the code. When using the key deposit, make sure that people who are not authorised to use the deposit cannot see the code.
